Lauch of Clann Uí Chléirigh
Launch Of Clan Uí Chleirigh Sept 2009
Clann Uí Chléirigh is Irish for “Clarkes “Family .The scheme is along the lines of Club Tyrone where people join to support their Club. There is no monthly draw or raffle, in the best GAA traditions people willingly give their time and money with no expectation of return.
The scheme was launched in September 2009 in the Iggy Jones room, by Dungannon and Tyrone legend Art McRory, speaking at the launch Art said
“Dungannon Clarkes is a club with a long, proud and rich history, now nearly 100 years in existence. Those years have seen many successes both on the field with 10 Tyrone Senior Football Championships, numerous youth titles and a ground O’Neill Park, famous the length and breadth of Ireland.
Each generation of Dungannon people has produced men and women with a love of Gaelic games and Irish culture and we inherited our club from people who worked very hard before us, in incredibly difficult times. They left us with a terrific legacy and it is our shared responsibility to hand our club to the next generation and beyond for them to carry proudly into the future. It is important that a sound and long-term financial structure is in place to make certain that happens.
The people of Dungannon have always supported the club very generously and I know this will be no different. By joining Clann Uí Chléirigh you can be part of ensuring the tradition continues and the rich legacy passes on for generations to come.”
Art went onto say
“An active committee consisting of well known former club players had been specially set up to take this innovative initiative forward. They have been working quietly in the background over the last few weeks prior to tonight’s launch and the response has already greatly exceeded expectations. The Committee will be in touch with many more people over the coming weeks.”
